THE CULTURE BEAT LEGACY: AGAINST ALL ODDS

My journey with Culture Beat began with a moment of total defiance and self-belief. In 1999, I was living in Amsterdam, fully immersed in the house music scene, when a call came out of the blue from a producer named Frank Fenslau, inviting me to audition in Darmstadt, Germany. I had never even heard of Culture Beat.

I arrived completely unprepared. I’ve always disliked the clinical, rigid feel of formal auditions; I preferred to trust my instinct that I could create something powerful on the spot.

The tension in the studio was palpable. Frank was visibly frustrated, realizing he had flown me all the way from Amsterdam only to find out I had brought no music of my own—and had never even heard "Mr. Vain." They were at a complete loss. Seeing the doubt in their eyes, I took control of the room. I turned to the engineer, Peter Gräber, and asked if he had a track he was currently working on—something with no melody, no lyrics, and absolutely no blueprint.

I told them, ‘‘Let me go into the booth and improvise.’’ I stepped into that vocal booth as a nobody. I trusted my soul, and my abilities and nailed it. I walked out of that booth as the new lead singer of Culture Beat.

To this day Peter Graber regrets not pressing the record button on my historic audition. It was not until my first show in Stuttgart that I realized exactly how big the world I had just stepped into really was.

CLAIMING THE STAGE

I officially signed at the end of 1999 and spent the first few months of 2000 in the recording studio, meticulously re-recording the lead vocals for the entire live show and performance repertoire. It was vital to me that the voice the world heard was authentically mine.

Since my debut concert in front of 80,000 people in 2000, I have stayed true to that fire. This era was defined by new hits, too.

I released ‘‘Insanity’’ with Culture Beat in 2001, followed by the global success of ‘‘Mr. Vain Recall’’ in 2003, and ‘‘Your Love’’ in 2008. I have always performed over my own studio vocals-because as a true singer, I find it impossible to move on stage without the power of my live voice adding to the mix.

While Tania Evans sang the iconic 90’s version of ‘Mr. Vain’, I was honoured to carry the legacy forward, matching the success of the original for the new generation. My journey has always been defined by one thing: a deep, unbreakable connection to the rhythm.

Frank took the leap and hired me. Peter took the wheel and guided my vocals. The two absolute pillars of my beginning.

‘‘Mr. Vain Recall’’ (2003): To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the group’s massive 1993 hit, a new version was released featuring my definitive lead vocals. This updated version of the global anthem was a massive commercial success.

‘‘Your Love’’ (2008): This track holds special significance as it features the lyrics I co-wrote alongside Morten Dybdal, for the first time establishing a deep creative synergy for the era’s live performances.

‘‘Insanity’’ (2001): This was the first original single marking a bold new chapter for my journey as a lead vocalist, reaching No. 1 on the charts in Israel.

The Debut: 80,000 Strong in Stuttgart

My first official show as the lead singer for Culture Beat was an unforgettable ‘‘baptism by fire.’’ Standing on a massive stage in Stuttgart, I performed for a sea of 80,000 people.

It was a high-energy, high-stakes introduction to the global stage that I will never forget.

Even the Mayor of Stuttgart was there, insisting on a photo together after the performance!
